PDPA and the installed app, not only the notice
Malaysian privacy duties start with purpose and notice. The running software is where those duties succeed or quietly fail.
A privacy notice can list purposes in careful Bahasa Malaysia and English and still not match the first ten minutes of the app. Location starts before the prompt. An advertising SDK initialises on a screen that has nothing to do with ads. A crash reporter uploads a view of the order form.
We are not a law firm. When we read an app for personal-data behaviour, we are asking a simpler question: can a product owner point at a screen and say why that field, that permission, or that vendor is there? If the answer is “it came with the template,” that is worth writing down before a complaint arrives.
For teams in Johor Bahru selling into both Malaysia and Singapore, the same build often has to satisfy more than one notice. Cross-border processors, including analytics vendors, belong in the inventory even when they feel like plumbing.
A practical habit: keep a dated export of the SDK list from the last release, next to the notice. When we review, that pair of documents saves a day of archaeology.
